“April showers are bringing lots of May flowers!”

As we are full bloom into spring, the grands are getting ready for the close of the school year. This month we’re focusing in on financial security and safety for the summer.

We’re encouraging all of our grands and supporters to register for the upcoming National Parents Union Financial Literacy Town Hall on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.

The Lillie’s Foundation Annual High Tea held, Saturday, May 4, 2024 is our celebration of our grands on another successful year. We’ll be acknowledging Ms. Foley, Caretaker Honoree at the Capitol as well as Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Almond both honored at the Annual Caretaker Awards.

Here are some updates for our grandchildren in our programs.

  • 85% or more of our grandchildren are on honor roll
  • 60% are on grade level for Reading
  • 48% are on grade level for Math
  • Majority (54%) are in APS charter schools, (44.3%) are in APS schools
  • 80% of our grandparents were engaged with advocacy and policy at their school/district

Our grandparents went through training sessions that helped the understand data and why the numbers look different when looking at graduation and honor roll data for example as opposed to reading, math and CTE data on proficiency and career preparation, Our Lillie’s Foundation STEM and Lillie’s PETAL Program Director, our team and partners implemented STEM based activities in our workshops, camps and program offering to support tutoring and enrichment needs.

Spring cleaning cleaning has passed us by but then there’s maintenance! Below are five (5) tips for grands to do to maintain spring cleaning.

  1. Replace batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  2. Check fire extinguishers .
  3. Clean kitchen hood and grills.
  4. Check and change air filters.
  5. Schedule cleaning of your HVAC .
