Don’t Pull the Plug!

Lillie’s Foundation celebrates our 8th year of operation starting this month. We want our grandparents and seniors to enjoy this special series on the blog sponsored by Allen’s Printing Company called, “Conversations with DA!”

The fifth topic is “Don’t Pull the Plug!”

Over the years, we’ve served many families at our conference room table. Often times the family members were struggling to get access to funding or to their loved ones finances. Unfortunately, a lot of businesses don’t wait for payment before rendering service. Everyone doesn’t work with the family like we do.

In order to avoid this from happening, and even having to go to probate court, here’s what Mr. Allen thinks you should know.

Our family specializes in storytelling. We know that there is an art to storytelling and specifically telling the stories of our lives. Whether if we’re empowering grandparents to share their stories through our work with Lillie’s Foundation or sharing the beautiful life stories through our programs by Allen’s Printing Company, we are actively engaged in storytelling.

Pulling the plug sounds harsh and hard. Quite frankly it’s a very hard process for families. When our Loved ones are faced with expected or unexpected health and wellness issues, sometimes when it’s time to let go we won’t.

However we must and we’re saying, don’t pull the plug unless you have a power of attorney over your healthcare.

Letting go of a Loved one, especially when in the care of doctors, nurses and treatment team is a mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and financial process.

Mr. Allen recommends that families also have a power of attorney for the health care of yourself and your Loved ones.

This is important for all families to consider regardless if there are any known or current health challenges.

In the case you are not able to make healthcare decisions for yourself or immediate family member, make sure that you have someone identified to do so.

Make sure your get connected to Our Grands Network and Educate Grands Program for workshops and more information on this topic.
